RES Faculty and Staff have worked hard this past week to prepare a welcoming, safe and comfortable learning environment for our students. We can’t wait to welcome our students! Important Reminders: Starting dates- Kindergarten: Last name A-L come Aug 16 and 17 and then return Aug 23 Last name M-Z come Aug 18 and 19 and then return Aug 23 First grade - Fifth grade: start Aug 16 Pre Kindergarten: start Aug 18 Car rider and Bus rider unloading begins at 7:20 am Dismissal begins at 2:40 Tech fee - $25 (must be paid in first 10 days to receive tech protection on device) Instructional student fee: $20 All students need to bring a book bag, water bottle and headphones that can be plugged into the ipad or laptop. (Change of clothes - lower grades only) Mask wearing is highly recommended at this time. Please send students with a mask they prefer and feel comfortable wearing. Masks MUST BE WORN in the health room and on the bus. Self screen students prior to coming to school and continue to use the google form to report illness: https://forms.gle/1NBmzoBX8Q6oCf6h6 FOR THE FIRST WEEK ONLY, if you wish to walk your student to the front door to get the First Day picture, you may do so but only once. A staff member will meet you at the door to let the student in.

Registration for Be Great Academy’s 2021-22 after school program is now open! Come join us for award-winning fun programs focused on achieving academic success, healthy life styles, and character development! Participants will receive snack daily and have the opportunity to complete each day’s homework during our Power Hour program. Our curriculum focuses on STEAM projects and leadership skills all while providing a safe place for your child after school. The School District of Newberry County is pleased to announce the following administrative selection for the 2021-2022 school year: Mrs. Kelly Folk has been selected as the Principal of Reuben Elementary School. Ms. Folk has 24 years in education, the majority of which have been in Newberry County. She received her Bachelors of Arts Degree in Special Education with an Elementary Education add-on and her Masters of Education in Administration and Supervision from Clemson University. She also received her Masters +30 in Elementary Education from Converse College. Ms. Folk most recently served as the Curriculum Coordinator and Literacy Coach at Reuben Elementary School.

We would like to remind you that our Online Registration is currently open for the 2021-2022 school year. You can access online registration via the links provided on the district website, https://www.newberry.k12.sc.us/. {Scroll down until you find the appropriate link for your student(s).}You should have already received by email, a Snap Code for your student. If you need the Snap Code for your child's registration, please contact the school at 803-321-2664. Please note that ALL students are required to complete online registration. In-person registration will be held at Reuben on Wednesday, July 28 from 8:00 am-1:00 pm and Thursday, July 29 from 1:00 pm-6:00 pm. Parents and students will pay fees, complete required forms, and receive important school information on these dates and times. Online registration needs to be completed in its entirety before coming to the school for Registration on July 28 & July 29. If you need to access a computer/internet for online registration, we are asking that you come by the school prior to July 28 & July 29 between the hours of 8 am- 3 pm Monday thru Thursday. Computers will be available to assist with the completion of online registration outside our school's main office.

ESSER III Community Survey The School District of Newberry County needs input on the spending of the ARP - ESSER III allocation. The SDNC received over $15.2 million to address learning loss and academic needs related to the Covid19 pandemic. Funds cannot be used for bonuses. On March 11, 2021, the American Rescue Plan (ARP) Act was signed into law. The US Department of Education is providing an additional $121.9 billion for the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund (ESSER III Fund). This legislation will award these grants to state educational agencies (SEAs) for the purpose of providing local educational agencies (LEAs) with emergency relief funds to address the impact that COVID-19 has had, and continues to have, on elementary and secondary schools across the nation. End of Year Celebrations On Friday, June 4th we will celebrate at Reuben Elementary by recognizing our students in our End of Year Awards Ceremonies and 5th grade students will participate in Reuben’s “Stepping Up” Program. Unfortunately, this year, no visitors will be allowed but we will be recording these events on Friday, June 4th and then sharing the link to the recording with our families on Monday, June 7th. We thank you in advance for your patience and understanding as we make this work in a manner that is best for all involved and follow the guidelines we are given.

Important reminders for this week: 1. 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students will be taking SCREADY and SCPASS this week. We will test on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday for all 3rd-5th and on Friday for 4th grade only. Please make sure your child gets a good night’s rest and is at school on time each day. We will begin testing at 8:00 each morning. K-2nd will be participating in iReady testing this week. A schedule will come from your child’s teacher. 2. All face to face student devices will remain on campus for the remainder of the school year so devices can be checked, cleaned and inventoried. Invoices will be sent home for any charges due to damage. 3. If you received a Hot Spot from the state, please return it to Mrs. Folk. Please make sure you return all parts (hot spot, cord and box). 4. Please return all library books. Last week was the last book check out for the school year. 5. We will continue to collect the DHEC Mask Opt Out form. The form can be found on the DHEC website, SDNC website or by calling the school and requesting a copy. Please note that ALL bus riders are required to wear a mask while riding the bus. The opt out form does not exclude them on the bus.

The School District of Newberry County will begin collecting Consent Forms to Opt Out of Face Mask Requirement Imposed on Students by a School or School District on Friday, May 14. The form must be completed in its entirety and should be returned to the school between Friday, May 14 and Friday, May 21. Once approved by the school, this form allows students to go mask-free in the school building. Face coverings will continue to be required on all school buses. Students who exhibit any symptoms and visit the health room will be issued a mask. Parents are reminded to continue to check your students for any symptoms prior to sending them to school and inform the school nurse if your child is symptomatic. Plexiglass and social distancing measures will remain in place. As students come for state testing that begins on May 17, please be aware that there may be students with and without masks in the classrooms where testing occurs.
